Truth be told, it’s hard to go wrong with either of these machines. They’re fast, drive well and are in the technological vanguard.
Red Sport 400 is the most potent version of Infiniti’s Q60, delivering – as its name implies – 400 horses. Torque measures 350 pound-feet, which peaks at just 1,600 RPM, sticking around until north of five-grand. For drivers that don’t need that much giddy up, a detuned version of this 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 is also offered, as well as a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
A seven-speed automatic is the only transmission offered, through rear- or all-wheel drive is available. Even though it clocks in at a little more than 4,000 pounds when equipped with four-corner traction, the Q60 Red Sport 400 should be plenty quick, doing the zero-to-60 deed in an estimated 5.0 seconds flat.
Clearly, the Audi S5 coupe has its hands full with this competitor. But don’t worry, the folks in Ingolstadt know what they’re doing.
Giddy-up is provided by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Output clocks in at 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, enough to propel this sultry coupe to 60 miles an hour in as little as 4.4 seconds. Not bad for a vehicle weighing 3,800 pounds and change.
Helping deliver this impressive performance is a standard eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Likewise, the brand’s legendary quattro all-wheel-drive system is included at no extra cost.
And even the standard A5’s base 2.0-liter turbo delivers ample acceleration. With 252 horses in its stable, this cars can reach mile-a-minute speed in as little as 5.6 seconds.
For added zest, the S5 is also offered as cabriolet and five-door Sportback models.
An all-wheel-drive Q60 Red Sport 400 starts at just about $55,000, which is basically dollar-for-dollar identical to the Audi S5’s entry price, meaning no car has a real advantage here.
